Monroe County School District receives more than $1M private donation

GLASGOW — Monroe County Schools Superintendent Lewis Carter announced Friday that the school district has received a donation of more than $1 million for the Monroe County Family Wellness Center and scholarships for Monroe County High School graduates.

The generous donation was given by George Eagle Bushong, who has family from Monroe County. Carter said Bushong mentioned his intention to donate $50,000 each year for the next 10 years for the wellness center, but he surprised Carter two weeks ago by adding an additional $55,000 for the next 10 years for various scholarships. The final paperwork for the grant funding went through this week.
