Butterflies for Maddie asks for help from local churches

Glasgow Daily Times

Organizers of the Butterflies for Maddie walk and run events April 20 are making a concerted effort this year to get churches and their members involved.

A 15 percent discount is offered from the race fees for groups of three or more. The 5k run/walk begins at 8 a.m. and the kids’ half-mile fun run begins at 9:30 a.m. Barren County YMCA in Glasgow is hosting the events.

As extra incentive, prizes will be awarded to the youth and children’s ministries that raise the most money. Churches will fall into two categories based on size: 100 or fewer people and more than 100. Within each category, first-place groups will get a popcorn machine and a pizza party, second place gets a snow cone machine and a pizza party and third place is a pizza party. At least five youths must be involved in the fundraising for eligibility in the contest.

Other ways churches can get involved in partnering with the organization include selling paper butterflies for $1 and then decorating with the butterflies; purchasing t-shirts, which are $10 each; or simply making a contribution of money.
