12:55 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Austin Tracy Elementary has been cleared

GLASGOW — After a thorough sweep of the building and grounds at Austin Tracy Elementary School by the Barren County Sheriff’s Office and school officials, an “all clear” has been given, according to the Barren County Schools District Facebook page.

Students will return from their safe location back to school and normal activities will resume. A non-specific threatening message was discovered on a restroom wall. As a precautionary procedure, law enforcement and school officials investigated to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Superintendent Bo Matthews thanked Barren County Sheriff’s Office personnel and Kentucky State Trooper B. J. Eaton, "for taking the lead on searching the building."

He also thanked Austin Tracy Principal Brian Clifford on his quick response in notifying district administrators of the potential threat. “The safety of the staff and students of all Barren County Schools remains our No. 1 priority and the cooperation of this community helps us make that happen. “

 

10:50 MORNING UPDATE: Austin Tracy Elementary School students were evacuated this morning, according to a press release from the Barren County Schools District.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., school principal Brian Clifford notified the central district office that a "non-specific threat was found." Students were evacuated to a safe location and Barren County Sheriff's Office personnel and school administrators are conducting a sweep of the buiding.

Once an "all-clear" is given, acitivies will resume as normal, according to the release.
