Metcalfe increases recycling

Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW — Metcalfe County’s recycling program has grown beyond expectations since it first began, and county officials are hoping it continues to expand.

“We started out, I can’t tell you the numbers, but we’re up to about 50,000 pounds of cardboard a month now, about two tons of plastic and probably two tons of paper,” said David Beasley, solid waste coordinator. “We started out with just a building and two trailers.”

The recycling program began in September 2012. County officials launched it with hopes of creating jobs and that it would eventually pay for itself.
