Glasgow Railway Company, WKU-Glasgow honored at chamber of commerce breakfast

Glasgow Daily Times

The Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce’s April quarterly breakfast at the Glasgow Golf and Country Club opened with Leigh Lessenberry, who shared a brief recount of the more than 150-year history of Glasgow Railway Company Inc.

The Glasgow Railway Company, a local small business, was built in 1856, but back then it was known as the Barren County Railroad Company. The short line railway, now owned by Robert Lessenberry and family, runs from Park City to Glasgow.

Lessenberry said the Glasgow Railway served a significant role in developing the community and it “continues to chug along.”  More importantly, Lessenberry believes the Glasgow Railway is a shining example of what can be accomplished through cooperation and teamwork.

Likewise, Sally Ray, Western Kentucky University-Glasgow Chancellor said the university would not be able to celebrate its 25th anniversary had it not been for the continuous support and cooperation from the community.

More than 200 attended the chamber of commerce quarterly breakfast, sponsored by WKU-Glasgow.
