GLASGOW —

T.J. Samson Community Hospital hosted the first in a series of tours Tuesday morning of the new TJ Health Pavilion located in Barren River Plaza.

With 84 days until the projected completion date, the pavilion is still heavily in the midst of construction, but officials with the hospital and TJ Health Partners wanted to give the community a preview of what the outpatient care and community center will look like when it opens in May.

Kevin Hitchel, Alliance Corporation assistant superintendent for the project, and T.J. Samson Chief of Planning and Development Laura Belcher led the 8:30 tour through the 225,000 square foot building. The health pavilion will encompass physician offices, an urgent care facility, community center, health care supply and gift shop, oncology, rehabilitation services for children and adults, dialysis, food court and women’s center. Hitchel started the group at the main entrance and wound his way through the first, second and third floors, explaining to his audience how things would look in the finished building.

Compared to other construction projects, a health care center provides unique challenges and some interesting projects, Hitchel said. Accommodations must be made for heavy, complicated equipment, as well as specialized material.

“It’s been tough,” Hitchel said. “Health care work is probably the most challenging kind of construction.”
