RECOGNITIONS: Erin Napier was recognized as the classified employee of the month; Certified employees of the month were Heather Meredith and  Olivia Dooley; the following students were recognized for student of the month: BCHS student, Keegan Ludwig, BCHS Student, Kevin Riley and BCMS student, Rebecca Hurley; others that were recognized were Hannah Weedman of the Barren County High School Art Club; Mattie Bruton, a State Governor’s Cup Winner; Nurse Rita Powell, District Athletic Director Bob Blair and Deputy Kent Keen were given the Hero award for conducting lifesaving operations to save a fellow employee.

REPORTS: The Barren County department heads gave their monthly reports, Superintendent Bo Matthews recognized regional Governor’s Cup champions: Temple Hill Elementary, which was the overall regional champ and North Jackson Elementary that earned the runner up regional champ title. The new district 21st Century Grant Coordinator CheyAnne Fant was also introduced. 

CONSENT ITEMS: Last month’s meeting minutes were approved; the bills, salaries and accounts were approved; the monthly financial reports were approved; Out-of-State/Overnight Student Travels were approved; the renewal of trash and recycling bid for 2013-14 was approved; the food service bids for 2013-14 were approved; the second reading to Policy 09.2212 Use of Physical Restraint and Seclusion was approved; the GRREC Membership for 2013-14 was approved; the Emergency Determination Designee to Steve Russell was approved; the Barren County High School fundraisers were approved; the amended Board Policies 09.111 Transfers and Withdrawals and  09.122 Attendance Requirements were approved.

ACTION ITEMS: The amendment to the Allocation Formula for 2013-14 was approved; the KISTA Resolution for used bus sale was approved; the reduction of one board professional development day for all certified staff members was approved; the reduction of one contract day for all classified staff members that work over 183 days per year was approved; the amended school calendar for 2013-14 school year was approved.

OTHER BUSINESS: Closed session to discuss sale of property the Barren County Board of Education owns.
