EDMONTON — A Monroe County woman died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on Ky. 90 east in Metcalfe County.
Melena Hughes Capps, 20, of Tompkinsville, was ejected from her vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene by the Metcalfe County Coroner, according to a Kentucky State Police press release.
The wreck occurred at 11:25 a.m. about two miles east of the Willow Shade community in Metcalfe County when Capps, who was traveling east, lost control of her vehicle in a curve and slid into the path of a westbound 2003 Chevy pickup driven by James Spera, 57, of New Castle, Ind. Capps was not wearing a seatbelt. Spera was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the Cumberland County Hospital where he was treated and released, the press release stated.
Trooper Logan Richardson with the Kentucky State Police in Columbia investigated the crash.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time, however, they are under the direction of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville.
