Housing authority celebrates milestone

55 years and growing

The Housing Authority of Glasgow turns 55 years old this month — a milestone worth marking because a lot of has happened during those years.

When the housing authority first began operation in Glasgow those who worked for the agency dealt more with “bricks and mortar.” Nowadays, the agency is more program-oriented.

Sheri Lee, executive director of the housing authority, began working for the agency in 1987.

At that time, the housing authority was still in the brick and mortar phase.

“HUD [US Department of Housing and Urban Development] had a lot of capital improvement grants and we were in the process of utilizing those capital fund grants to make improvements on our buildings to bring them up to date,” Lee said.
