According to court documents, a new board of trustees for T.J. Samson Community Hospital, elected as a challenge to the current board, is ready to go to battle to take control of running Barren County’s central healthcare facility and largest community employer. However, at least one trustee is unsure of his role.
After months of meetings about the hospital’s perceived drift from its community roots, a group of citizen descendants of from T.J. Samson’s original stockholders decided to reassert their ancestors’ right to vote for a board of trustees. On May 25, descendants of six stockholders cast votes for a new six-person board of trustees. D.T. Froedge, the stockholder descendant who led the movement to elect a new board, was elected, along with Glasgow City Councilman Wendell Honeycutt, Cave City Mayor Dwayne Hatcher, Horse Cave Mayor Randall Curry, Lyon Hutcherson and Curtis Peil.
On June 6, the newly elected board filed a petition for declaration of rights in Barren Circuit Court, asking the court to declare them the rightful trustees of T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
