Wounded Glasgow Police Department officer named

GLASGOW — The identity of a Glasgow policeman, who was injured Wednesday when a firearm discharged at a local business, has been released by the Glasgow Police Department.

Officer Darrell Smith was looking at a gun at Barren Outdoors on Wednesday morning when it discharged in his hand and injured two of his fingers, according to a press release from GPD Public Affairs Officer JulieAnne Williams.

Smith was initially treated at T.J. Samson Community Hospital and then transported by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service to Jewish Hospital in Louisville where he underwent surgery, according to the release.

Barren-Metcalfe EMS Director Mike Swift confirmed Wednesday night that a patient had been transported with a gun-related wound from the business on Scottsville Road.  

David MacArthur, media relations manager for Kentucky One Health confirmed Thursday afternoon that Smith had been discharged from Jewish Hospital.

Smith will return to duty Friday, according to the GPD release.
