HORSE CAVE — Work to widen Interstate 65 from four lanes to six continues in Hart County. Beginning tonight, crews will be setting temporary, inside barrier wall on southbound lanes. They will be using temporary lane closures to set the wall at night, starting tonight. No lane closures will be allowed during the day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. central time. Once the wall is in place there should not be a need of temporary lane closures until the next shift in October.
Motorists are reminded to pay attention to signage when approaching the construction zone. Lane shifts are setup on the southbound approach to the project and on approach to bridges over US 31W, CSX Railroad and Green River near Munfordville. Reduced speed limits are in effect and fines are doubled when workers are present.
In mid-December, work to remove shoulder rumble strips and shift traffic to the outer shoulders (both directions) was completed. This allows construction work to take place in the median. Once inside lanes and permanent barrier wall are constructed, traffic will be shifted and work will begin on outside lanes. Shifting to inside lanes will not take place until October. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained through the duration of the project.
