CAVE CITY — A man and a woman were arrested on New Year's Day in Cave City on drug charges during a traffic safety checkpoint conducted by the Cave City Police Deparmtent.
Halious Isbell, 49, of Scottsville, was stopped by Cave City police officer Terrill Riley as he passed through a checkpoint on Mammoth Cave Street, according to a Cave City Police Department press release.
Cave City police officers discovered an open container of alcohol in Isbell's vehicle and determined he was under the influence of drugs and/ or alcohol.
After further investigation, the police officers found a crack pipe with residue, a bag of suspected crystal methamphetamine, a bag of cocaine and a small bag of marijuana in plain view in the vehicle, stated the press release.
Isbell, along with a passenger in his vehicle, Tracy J. Mitchell, 34, of Bowling Green, were placed into custody and taken to the Barren County Detention Center.
Isbell was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs (aggravated circumstances, third offense), driving on a DUI suspended license (second offense, aggravated circumstances), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle, the press release stated.
Mitchell was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense), possession of marijuana and posession of drug paraphernalia.
She was also served with an Allen County District Court warrant for contempt of court, the press release stated.
Riley was assisted by police chief Jeff Wrifght and police officer Danny Coomer.
