Local school children, as well as adult community members, will have a better understanding of the engineering field after visiting the new Discover Tech exhibit at Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library. That’s what library officials are hoping they take away from the experience.
Mary Wood Weldon is one of a handful of libraries nationwide to receive Discover Tech, a traveling exhibit developed by the National Center for Interactive Learning, which focuses on the various types of engineering.
“When you are one of eight libraries in the nation to have been chosen to host the exhibit, that’s a big deal,” said Lynn Andrew, director of library services.
The exhibit will be on display at the library through February and will feature a variety of programming, both school-age appropriate as well as family oriented, that is linked to the engineering field, whether the programming is about chemical, mechanical, civil or electrical engineering.
“One of the real impetus for me in applying for it is we try to … to supplement what the schools are already doing,” said Martha Nell Thomas, outreach coordinator for the library.
