The Glasgow Community Band is set to give its traditional holiday concert Sunday afternoon at the Plaza Theatre.
The band has been performing a Christmas concert for nine years, with the first one taking place in 2002 at the theater. The only year it missed doing the concert was in 2010 when it was cancelled due to snow.
“It [the concert] has certainly become a tradition, and it gives the band members something new and exciting to work on at this time of year,” said Bill Brogan, conductor.
The band’s second Christmas concert, which took place in 2003, was performed at the Liberty Street gym. The third one at Barren County High School’s auditorium.
“It has been at the Plaza eight times,” Brogan said.
The band performs a selection of traditional Christmas Carols each year. Sometimes the carols are presented in a new or different way, he said.
“We also play Christmas music from Scotland, Ireland, Canada and even other countries, when possible,” said Brogan.
