Interim judge appointed in 40th judicial district

GLASGOW — An interim judge has been named to preside over cases in the 40th judicial district, which is composed of Monroe, Cumberland and Clinton counties.

Steve Hurt, a senior judge, who served more than 20 years as district judge for Monroe and Cumberland counties has been named interim judge for the 40th judicial district.

Hurt temporarily fills a vacancy left by Hon. Eddie C. Lovelace, chief circuit judge, who died Sept. 17 at age 78 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He had served as circuit court judge for the 40th judicial district for 10 years.

Hurt had known Lovelace for more than 30 years.

“It's an honor to fill in for him,” Hurt said. “It's somebody you knew and worked under for a long time so I guess it would be an honor and sort of a daunting responsibility.”

Hurt also said he is looking forward to working once again with people in the 40th judicial district. He retired in the late 1980s.
