Metcalfe school district slates auctions for former elementaries


North Metcalfe Elementary and Summer Shade Elementary schools are to be sold at auction Sept. 21.

The long-time community elementary schools were built in the 1950s. On Aug. 1, 2009, the Glasgow Daily Times reported that both elementary schools had problems related to their age, which included asbestos in the floor tile, poor handicap accessibility, lack of hot water and odor in both elementary schools’ bathrooms.

Asbestos was such an issue that Herby Bunch, director of transportation and maintenance, had to monitor it closely and report back to the Kentucky Department of Education every six months.
