Inquiring Minds Camp makes learning fun

GLASGOW — Carson Jessie, a Glasgow Schools elementary student, meticulously mimicked art teacher Todd Woodward’s movements at the front of the classroom, making broad sweeping strokes of sky blue paint on canvas.

“I like that you can’t make a mistake with art,” Carson said.

Creating a Wassily Kandinsky-style painting was one of the many activities at the Glasgow Independent Schools’ Inquiring Minds Day Camp at South Green Elementary School. During the week-long summer camp students got the opportunities to learn more about art, robotics, geology and fractions.

Due to the uneven number of students involved in each grade level, the students were divided up by gender. The students were also assigned a different class daily to learn about all four subjects. Kelly Oliver, Inquiring Minds Day Camp director, said separating the students by gender was something new this year.
