23 animals adopted at BRAWA open house

GLASGOW — The Barren River Animal Welfare Association was able to get 23 animals adopted during a four-hour open house Saturday, more than the shelter has ever had adopted in one day.

BRAWA’s Christmas Open House was held Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and community members were invited to come and enjoy the activities, bring their pets and adopt new pets. The event included refreshments, raffle prizes, pet pictures with Santa and of course, lots of animals. BRAWA director Margie Patton said there were people in and out of the shelter throughout the afternoon, which was a surprise considering it rained all afternoon. The parking lot filled up quickly, Patton said, so visitors had to park along the side of the road and even trek through mud with their pets to get into the shelter.

“I was really surprised we had that many people,” Patton said.

The primary success for the day was having so many animals adopted.

“We had 23 adoptions, which is a huge number for us,” Patton said.

BRAWA is located at 175 Trojan Trail in Glasgow.
