Five people injured in Barren County crash

GLASGOW — Five people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Lick Branch and Kino roads in eastern Barren County.

The wreck occurred when a 1996 Chevy pickup driven by Derral A. Glass, 27, of Edmonton, pulled from Lick Branch Road onto Kino Road and into the path of a 2007 Ford Fusion driven by Crystal N. Key, 24, of Glasgow, said Trevor Phillips, public information officer for the Barren County Sheriff’s Department.

One of Key’s children, Lewis Pena, 5, was air-lifted from the scene and taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

Key and her two other children, Ivan Pena, 4, and 2-month-old Angel Canales, were taken by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical  Services to T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Ivan Pena was later flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Key, Canales and Glass were treated and released from T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Phillips said.

Lewis and Ivan Pena are reported to be in good condition, according to a hospital representative.

Detective Rusty Anderson investigated the wreck scene and was assisted by Deputy Kevin Wilson. Firefighters with the East Barren Volunteer Fire Department and personnel with the Barren-Metcalfe EMS also responded to the wreck scene, he said.
