It's all about safe babies

GLASGOW — Katie Poindexter was one of several expectant mothers who turned out Thursday for the Community Baby Safety Shower.

She came to the event at the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ with her husband, Douglas, and her 22-month-old daughter, Danica Overfelt.

“Last year we came here for my daughter and it was a great outreach to the community,” said  Poindexter, who is expecting another baby in October. “I was able to make new friends, moms-to-be, [and] we got a lot of great things that we were thankful the community was able to supply.”

The annual event is a joint effort between Family Resource and Youth Service Center directors from area schools and a variety of community organizations that offer health and safety information to expectant mothers and new mothers.
