CAVE CITY: Broadway will get new lights

GLASGOW — Downtown Cave City will have a different look once new decorative street lights are installed along Broadway Street.

Robert Smith, code enforcement officer, announced the installation of the new street lights at the Cave City Council meeting Monday night.

The lights are part of an ongoing effort to upgrade the atmosphere in the downtown area, he said. They will cost the city about $4 more per month.

“Our total bill for street lights is like $6,000 a month. This only involves 29 lights downtown,” Smith said.

Natasha Collins, director of media relations for Kentucky Utilities, said Cave City officials contacted the utility company about changing the style of the street lights, which KU will furnish.

The city currently uses a colonial style, but will switch to an acorn style. The lights will be placed on 29 existing poles. Two of the poles will be relocated – one moved closer to the street and another one moved further away, Smith said.
