Metcalfe Co. Schools eliminates 24 positions

GLASGOW — The Metcalfe County Schools Board of Education approved an addendum to the agenda to eliminate a total of 24 positions throughout the school district on Tuesday.

The following positions that were approved to be eliminated are: ISS coordinator, cook/food service assistant, CIITS/IC coach, director of instructional technology/grants program manager, psychometrist, district wide curriculum and instruction for learning/high school improvement coordinator, director of Community Ed/public relations/webmaster, Metcalfe County Middle School library assistant; director of buildings and grounds/maintenance, Metcalfe County High School administrative manager, sixth grade center coordinator, Edmonton Elementary instructional coordinator, Metcalfe County Middle School literary teacher/ coach, nine positions filled with Daily Wage Threshold personnel, contract personnel (security) and one full-time substitute bus driver.

Byron Jeffries, interim superintendent, said the position eliminations are due to increasing financial  difficulties that all Kentucky public schools are facing including: federal sequestration that cut government funded educational grants and the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust’s nearly $60 million deficit that schools that getting charged for to make up for the deficit, costing the Metcalfe County Schools an estimated $148,918.
