The Metcalfe County teenager arrested over the weekend in connection with the death of Brandon Tyler Crain entered a not guilty plea Monday in Hart District Court.
Daniel J. Hostetler, 19, of 28 Joe Bowles Road, Summer Shade, pleaded not guilty to first-degree manslaughter, a Class B felony. He was arrested and charged in connection with the Jan. 26, 2012 disappearance of Crain, also 19, of Munfordville.
Crain’s body was recovered by fishermen from the Green River in the Woodbury community of Butler County on April 28, 2012.
Hostetler is being held at the Hart County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
He was arrested Saturday by Hart County Sheriff Boston Hensley and Hart County Deputy Jeff Wilson after the sheriff’s office received information from an officer with the Flemingsburg Police Department in northern Kentucky.
“Flemingsburg had information that was relayed to us by a city officer,” Hensley said. “With the assistance of the Barren County [Sheriff’s Office], we located this young man and interviewed him. Through the interview we had enough information to charge him with manslaughter in the first degree.”
According to Kentucky Revised Statutes, a person is charged with first-degree manslaughter when there is an intent to cause serious physical injury to another person or causes the death of a person or a third person under circumstances which do not constitute murder because he acts under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance.
