EVENING UPDATE: Hearing set for Minor to plead guilty

GLASGOW — A hearing has been set for May 1 for Joseph Adam Gene Minor to change his plea in a case in which he, Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton, and Deputy Aaron Bennett and Barren-Edmonson Drug Task Force officer Eric Guffey have been charged.

U.S. District Judge Joseph H. McKinley Jr. entered an order Tuesday setting the hearing for Minor, where he is expected to change his plea to guilty.

Ken Garrett, Minor’s attorney, told the Lexington Herald-Leader that he could not comment on whether Minor would cooperate with prosecutors in the case.

The four officers were charged in February with beating a man in February 2010 during an arrest, then lying about the incident to federal investigators.

All four men entered initial pleas of not guilty during an arraignment in federal court in Bowling Green on March 27. Only Minor, who now works with the drug task-force, has moved to change his plea.

The change of plea hearing is set for 10 a.m., May 1, in the U.S. Courthouse in Owensboro, according to the court order.

Sheriff’s Deputy Danny “Bobby” McCown was removed from the indictment prior to arraignment. He told the Daily Times there was no reason provided to him at the time as to why he was dropped from the indictment.
