Barton hearing scheduled for Monday

Other GPD internal investigations on chief plus rank-and-file officers have been conducted

On Monday night, Glasgow Police Department Sgt. Jessie Barton – and his employment with the city – will be the subject of an administrative hearing with the Glasgow City Council essentially acting as a jury.

After an internal investigation conducted by Lt. Jimmy Phelps, a GPD detective, a complaint was filed alleging Barton with violations of the department’s code of ethics, including conduct unbecoming an officer. A notice provided to him regarding the internal investigation states that during the course of an FBI investigation against members of the Barren County Sheriff's Office, Barton gave false statements to federal agents and a federal grand jury and testified in federal court on May 1-2, admitting to giving those “false or untrue statements” to federal authorities.
