GLASGOW — Though it was nearly 72 years ago, every surviving member of Glasgow High School’s class of 1943 could recall Pearl Harbor Day like it was yesterday.

Edwin F. Smith, a 1943 graduate, recalled the regular television programming being interrupted to alert the public that the Japanese had bombed a United States naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He remembered the feelings of fear, disbelief and vulnerability that followed hearing the news. Just like that, the war had entered into their living rooms, the halls of their school and became a part of daily life.

The class recounted memories over lunch at Hall Place Bed and Breakfast on Saturday.

“It was an emotional time,” Smith said.
