9:02 MORNING UPDATE: Columbia woman dies in car crash

COLUMBIA — A one-car crash claimed the life of an Adair County woman Thursday. 

Stacy Carter, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at Westlake Regional Hospital by the Adair County Coroner, according to a Kentucky State Police press release. 

The crash occurred about 7  miles east of Columbia on Ky. 206. Carter, 49, was traveling west on Ky. 206 in a 2003 Nissan when she lost control of the vehicle. Her car left the eastbound side of the road, struck a utility pole and traveled through a fence before stopping. Carter was not wearing a seat belt, the press release stated. 

The wreck is being investigated by Trooper Kenny Brown. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, the press release stated.
