GLASGOW — Cave City council members approved an ordinance Monday night that calls for a parcel of property to be rezoned.

The property, which is located at 206 South Dixie Highway and consists of 0.43 of an acre, is owned by Kelly Walker, according to Robert Smith, code enforcement officer.

The property is across the street from Owen’s Chapel Baptist Church, Smith said.

Walker is relocating a car lot to the South Dixie Highway location making it necessary for the property to be rezoned from two-family residential, or R2, to general business district, or B2.

Kevin Myatt, planning director for the Joint City-County Planning Commission of Barren County, spoke to council members about the request for the zoning change.

“There was a public meeting held at the Joint City-County Planning Commission. As you are aware the planning commission is an arm of your commission, as well as they are for Park City, Glasgow and Barren County. The applicant came forward and requested a zone change. That took place on Nov. 19, 2012,” he said.

The planning commission approved Walker’s request for the zoning change.

“It was in compliance with the comprehensive plan’s future land use map,” Myatt said.
