Jailer files ethics complaint against magistrate

Barren County’s jailer has submitted an ethics complaint against a fiscal court magistrate, citing concerns over potential conflicts of interest.

Jailer Matt Mutter mailed a letter to the five members of the Barren County Ethics Commission on Thursday of last week, stating he had obtained photos of Magistrate Chris Steward at a gathering at the home of a deputy jailer who has a pending lawsuit against the county. A current jail employee who also has a pending lawsuit against the county was in attendance as well, the letter states, adding that Steward was “well aware” of the litigation and Mutter considered this to be an “obvious conflict of interest.”
