Finance committee wants to leave property tax rates the same

If the Glasgow City Council’s finance committee has its way, the city’s property tax rates will be unchanged for next year.

Mayor Rhonda Riherd Trautman explained to the group at its regular meeting Tuesday that the city’s property tax revenue is affected by the total assessed value of properties in the city.

“It’s complicated by the fact that each year, your assessments fluctuate,” she said. “This year, overall, our assessments are going down.”

A decrease in total assessments is really unusual, said Councilman Jim Marion, the committee’s chairman.
