Howard picked for statewide student council

GLASGOW — Sarah Howard knows a thing or two about initiative and dedication.

Howard, a senior at Glasgow High School, was recently selected as one of four new members of the Kentucky Next-Generation Student Advisory Council.

Howard will be part of a group that will provide input to Kentucky Education Commissioner Dr. Terry Holliday — who she will meet when she travels to Frankfort on Wednesday.

“We will meet with educators and people who work with legislation in Kentucky,” she said. “We’ll meet and discuss different issues that are going on in the schools. It’s all about making public education better.”

Howard applied in mid-August, something she said she’s glad she took the time to pursue.

“They opened it up again for applications and I had to write several different essays, like what kind of leadership qualities I would bring to the council,” she said. “I really wanted to do it because I have always had an interest in public education. It’s one of most important things for Kentucky’s future. I’m glad to be part of that.”
