Jenny Lu’s Revue returns to the Plaza

GLASGOW — Every time Chad and Jenny Lu Shireman present “Jenny Lu’s Country Music Revue” at the Plaza Theatre, they donate a portion of the ticket sales to a local charity.

“We are so fortunate just to be able to put on a show like this at such a beautiful place that we felt that we need to give something back to the local community,” said Chad Shireman. “This is not only to help the charities financially, but it also helps raise awareness for the causes.”

In the past, money from the show has gone to the Barren River Animal Welfare Association and to Allie’s Angels, a nonprofit organization benefitting Down syndrome.

On Saturday, when “Jenny Lu’s Country Music Revue” pays tribute to country music legends at the Plaza, $1 of each ticket sale will go to the  Butterflies for Maddie Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to honor the memory of a  Glasgow girl, Madilyn “Maddie” Grace Morgan, who died in 2005 from pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, an extremely rare form of high blood pressure in the lung arteries that occurs in children and young adults.

Donations to the foundation fund research to find a cure for pulmonary veno-occlusive disease.

Donna Morgan, who is Maddie’s mom, said she is excited that the show will benefit the foundation.

“We feel very honored that they chose us this time,” she said.

A seminar is held each year at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville to educate doctors about the disease. This year’s seminar is Jan. 30.

“It’s really bittersweet what we listen to every year,” Morgan said.

The doctor who diagnosed Maddie with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease has also diagnosed it in a couple of other children. But Maddie’s case was the first he had seen, she said.

“It’s really bittersweet for (Maddie’s father) Tony and I. It’s awesome that they are finding different ways to extend lives,” Morgan said.

Morgan, a George Jones fan, is eager to attend the concert Saturday. It will be her first time seeing a country music tribute show.

Tribute artist Allen Hilbert will sing Jones’ songs, while other guests such as Natalie Berry, Rodger Riggs and Brandon Porter will play tributes to artists such as Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Ray Price, Connie Smith and others.

“Jenny Lu will be doing tributes to Dolly and Barbara Mandrell,” Chad Shireman said.

The Shiremans chose a country legends show because many people enjoy these artists’ music, he said.

“We decided to do a second legends show this time because it was the first time we were able to get Allen Hilbert to come down to Glasgow,” Chad Shireman said. “Brandon Porter is the senior pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Glasgow. He has done his Johnny Cash tribute in the past with the Bowling Green orchestra.”

Tickets for “Jenny Lu’s Country Music Revue” are $10 and can be purchased at the theater’s box office, by calling 270-361-2101, or online at The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday.
