1:44 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Cave City man arrested on burglary charge

CAVE CITY — A Cave City man was arrested Saturday in connection with a break-in at a Cave City attraction. 

Capt. Danny Coomer with the Cave City Police Department received a call Saturday in reference to a break-in at Guntown Mountain. When Coomer and other police officers with the Cave City Police Department arrived on the scene, they found a window had been broken and a door was open. They also discovered a medical card with Carl P. Gifford's name on it, according to a Cave City Police Department press release.

Upon further investigation, police located Gifford, 22, at the Star Motel at 908 S. Dixie Highway. Gifford was questioned about the break-in and admitted to the crime. He also admitted to several other break-ins that have occurred throughout the city over the past few months, the press release stated.

Other businesses where break-ins had occurred are Junior Poynter Distributors and the T&N Laundromat on S. Dixie Highway. Gifford was accompanied by two juveniles, the press release stated. 

Gifford was charged with third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking under $500 (auto) and criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. A bond for Gifford was pending at press time. 

Cave City police are continuing their investigation regarding the break-ins and more arrests are expected, the press release stated.
