GPD makes arrest in burglary case

By LISA SIMPSON STRANGE

GLASGOW

A Tennessee man was arrested Saturday as the result of an ongoing burglary investigation by the Glasgow Police Department.

Brandon James Brock, 24, of New Tazewell, Tenn., and originally from Harlan County, was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree in connection with burglaries that occurred at a local pharmaceutical company on Sept. 15 and 19, according to Capt. Kent Keen, GPD public information officer.

After receiving a tip from Det. Sgt. John Tegale of the Harlan County Sheriff’s Department about a possible suspect who might be connected to the burglaries, Det. Jimmy Phelps, Det. Jimmy Pedigo and Maj. Maxie Murray traveled to Harlan County last week where they conducted three days of interviews.

As the result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Brock in Claiborne County, Tenn. He was taken into custody and is lodged in the Claiborne County jail under a $150,000 cash bond.

Penny Lynn Parrott, 42, of Fountain Run, was also charged with complicity to burglary, third degree. Parrott is Brock’s mother. She was arrested by Det. Phelps on Monday and is lodged in the Barren County Correction Center.

Belt buckle knife leads to felony arrest

A knife concealed in a belt buckle led to felony charges against a Tompkinsville man Monday.

Jackie Dale Short, 18, of Hollaway Road, Tompkinsville, had already been placed in custody on a commitment order issued by the Barren County Drug Court and was being transported and booked into the Barren County Correction Center.

According to a Glasgow Police Department report, Short was met at the door of the jail and asked by deputy Justin Kirkpatrick if he was carrying any drugs or weapons. Short allegedly stated he did not have any contraband on his person.

When GPD Capt. James Duff searched Short, he found a knife concealed in his belt buckle, which Short allegedly then admitted he knew he had in his possession.

Short was charged with carrying a concealed, deadly weapon, a misdemeanor, and promoting contraband, first degree, a felony. GPD Officer Bradley Lewis made the arrest.
