MEETING: Tompkinsville City Commission

DATE: Nov. 19, 2009

ACTION: Approved October meeting minutes; agreed to write letter of support in favor of applying for two $10,000 grants — one to create a lunch park in downtown Tompkinsville and another one to create a primitive RV camp site at the city park; approved the 2008-09 audit report; approved on second reading an ordinance closing city hall on Nov. 27; approved the list of streets to be paved by Scotty’s Contracting; approved 2009 annual city commission payment as follows: Jeff Harrison and Richard Jackson, $750 each; Scotty Turner, $650; Wally Strode, $800 for a total of $2,950, which is in addition to the $50 they each receive per meeting; approved the annual fire run stipend for the Tompkinsville Volunteer Fire Department at $5,190; approved annual salary supplement for full-time city employees at $125 each after taxes; agreed to allow police chief Dale Ford to take 30 children shopping for Christmas as part of the Shop with Cops program and to cash in a $1,600 certificate of deposit to use for the program; agreed to rescind action from the November 1993 meeting waiving utility bill for the Monroe County Senior Citizens Center and requiring the center to pay 100 percent of the utility bill beginning in December; agreed to take Eddie Bennett of maintenance department rotation for weekend duty due to him working with city’s recycling program; agreed not to purchase street sweeper with road aid money; and agreed to transfer 1 percent of payroll tax funds to pay bills.

REPORTS: Cathy Page gave the city’s quarterly finance report.

ITEMS TABLED: Commissioners agreed to table action on promoting a police officer to captain due to no such position existing in the city’s personnel policy.

DISCUSSION: Commissioners discussed acquiring a pump truck; natural gas public awareness meetings; and fees for those who wish to set up roadblocks.

CLOSED SESSION: Commissioners met in closed session to discuss personnel issues. No action was taken.
