4 incumbents return in T’ville

— Four incumbents will be returning to serve additional two-year terms on the Tompkinsville City Commission.
Re-elected are: Scotty Turner with 488 votes; Steve Carter, 547; Jeff Harrison, 478; and Richard Jackson, 395.
Others who ran for a seat on the Tompkinsville City Commission and their vote totals are: Alene Rich, 350; Eddie C. Graves, 362; Mary E. Hamilton, 253; and Wally Strode, 401.
In the Gamaliel City Commission race, two incumbents will be returning to serve additional two-year terms. They are: Carol S. Wheeler with 138 votes and Timmy Stinson with 130 votes. Also elected to a seat on the commission are: Paul Lee with 136 votes and Chris M. Comer with 114 votes.
Re-elected to the Fountain Run City Commission are: Joyce D. Howard, 55; Larry J. Shaw, 51; and Terry D. Billingsley, 57. New to the commission is Steven L. Eaton with 47 votes.
In the Monroe County Board of Education race, only one incumbent will be returning and that is Todd Burgess with 559 votes.
New to the board of education will be Eddie Proffitt, who received 589 votes, and Toby Chapman, who received 607 votes.
Daniel J. Venters, who was unopposed, was elected to the Kentucky Supreme Court Justice’s Third District position with 2,189 votes.
Re-elected as Kentucky State Representative was James R. Comer with 4,097 votes. He ran for the seat unopposed.
In the U.S. Representative’s race for the first congressional district, Ed Whitfield was re-elected with 3,590 votes over Heather Ryan, who received 870 votes.
Sen. Mitch McConnell was re-elected to the U.S. Senate with 3,318 votes over Bruce Lunsford’s 1,237 votes.
In the presidential race, Sen. John McCain received 3,537 votes, while Sen. Barack Obama received 1,067. Ralph Nader received 31 votes, and Chuck Baldwin received 16 votes. Bob Barr received 14 votes.
