Briefs: Local man indicted for Social Security fraud

Staff report
Glasgow Daily Times

A federal grand jury in Bowling Green returned indictments against an Edmonson County man on Wednesday on charges of defrauding the Social Security Supplemental Security Income program.

Mark Linebaugh, 54, Mammoth Cave, allegedly failed to advise the SSI program of an event affecting his continued right to receive disability benefits between Oct. 2003 and April 2009, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s Western Kentucky District office.

In his scheme to defraud the program, Linebaugh concealed resources and income which should have been counted towards his asset limitations and resulted in an overpayment of benefits to Linebaugh from the government, according to the report.

If convicted, Linebaugh faces maximum potential penalties of not more than five years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for a period of three years.

Two charged plead guilty

to selling illegal documents

Two central Kentucky illegal immigrants pleaded guilty in Federal court on Wednesday to selling fraudulent documents. Araceli Lozano-Hernandez, aka Fernanda Andreo-Ponco aka Bertha Campos, admitted to unlawfully selling four fraudulent permanent resident cards and four fraudulent Social Security cards to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Barren County between March 17 and May 12, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Louisville.

Also, Eugenio Hernandez-Morena, aka Vicente Focenca-Pena aka Lalo, admitted that between June 9 and June 19 he unlawfully sold a fraudulent Mexican driver’s license, a fraudulent international driver’s license, three fraudulent Social Security cards and three fraudulent permanent resident alien cards to ICE agents.

Upon execution of a search warrant, law enforcement officials discovered software and templates for driver’s licenses for various states throughout the United States, according to the report.

Each defendant faces maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment for each count, a maximum fine of $250,000 and supervised release for a period of three years if convicted.
