Three incumbents will serve additional two-year terms on the Cave City City Council, according to unofficial election results.
Dwayne Hatcher had the highest number of votes with 486, followed by Mike Houchens with 481 and Carol Ford with 428.
“I am excited about the turnout and thank the people for their vote of confidence. I’m looking forward to working with our new council. I think it’s a good council. I think we can get on track in Cave City and prosper and take care of city business and our town and get down to the business of operating the city and taking care of the citizens of Cave City,” said Hatcher.
In January Gary Hogan, who garnered 404 votes, will join the council, along with Buddy Wilshire, who got with 358 votes and Denny Doyle with 268.
Of the three newly elected members, Wilshire is the only one with prior experience. He served on the council from 2004-06.
Wilshire was a bit humbled by his election success.
“I guess it’s just the way the people wanted it. They’ve spoken, I guess,” Wilshire said. “I was really surprised because I hadn’t worked that hard at it. I’ll do all I can to help the city and the people.”
Doyle was also pleased with the election results.
“I hope I can work with everyone who has been elected and we can have some regulated and controlled growth and progress for Cave City,” he said.
Three incumbents who were seeking re-election were defeated: Todd Esters, Leon Adwell and Donnie Davidson.
Esters had 245 votes, while Adwell had 215 and Donnie Davidson had 228.
There were 12 people looking to fill six seats on the council.
Others who ran for office and their vote totals are: Larry Davidson, 222; Chris Adwell, 128; and Lonnie Meredith, 226.
