BRAWA searching for dog that disappeared By GINA KINSLOW Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — The whereabouts of an 8-week-old puppy is a mystery for the staff of the Glasgow-Barren County Animal Shelter.
The puppy, a terrier mix named Wally, apparently was taken from the shelter on Saturday. “I know he was there at 1:30 p.m. when I was there and he was gone by 3 to 4 p.m.,” said Margie Patton with the Barren River Animal Welfare Association (BRAWA). Patton believes someone hid the puppy in a shirt or jacket and snuck him out of the shelter. It’s not possible for Wally to have gotten out of his pen and slipped out the shelter door, she said. “If he was out of his pen, he would be under your feet,” she said. She realizes the person who took the dog thinks they are doing a good deed by saving him from being euthanized if he’s not adopted, but Patton said Wally already has a home to go to. “The Rescue Wagon is coming Wednesday morning and he’s going to miss his ride,” she said. Patton finds the situation additionally frustrating in that neither she nor the animal shelter staff know if the person who took Wally is capable of caring for him properly. Wally is not the first animal to be stolen from the shelter. “We had a tiny puppy years ago and we’ve had a couple of kittens (taken), but it hasn’t happened for a long time,” she said. In order to keep thefts from occurring, Patton said the shelter tries to always have someone at the front desk to watch as people come and go to make sure animals aren’t stolen. However, Saturday was particularly busy, she said. BRAWA is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the arrest of the thief and the return of the puppy. Anyone with information is asked to call the shelter at 651-7297.
