Edwards says budget is concern By AMBER DILLEY Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Kenneth Edwards, a member of the Barren County Board of Education and local tobacco and sweet corn grower, thinks that the district should work to help the students get the best.
Up for re-election this year, Edwards said: “We need to ensure each child in the Barren County District is receiving the best education possible in the safest environment we can provide.” Edwards said the budget will be one of the most important issues the board deals with during this next year. “We’re meeting and going over everything — we’re looking at every possible way we can cut and then going from there,” Edwards said. “I don’t know if it will directly impact the students, but it will be hard to make cuts without some impact on them.” Edwards has also supported the building of North Jackson Elementary since the beginning. “I think it will help alleviate the overcrowding at Red Cross. I don’t know it will happen immediately, but it will help, we just have to wait and see,” he said. “It’s important that those students get the best education they can and that’s hard to do in an overcrowded environment.” Edwards has been on the board for 14 years and is running unopposed in the election. “I’m very fortunate to serve with a group of individuals who ask ‘What is best for the students of Barren County?’ before any decisions are made,” Edwards said.
