The Glasgow City Council on Monday approved a $232,905 loan to the Glasgow Airport Board to fund payment of a jury award in a condemnation action.
On Sept. 11, a Barren Circuit Court jury decided in favor of plaintiffs Lawton and Beverly Eaton, and awarded them $294,000 as compensation in a lawsuit over the condemnation of their property and its valuation by the Glasgow Airport Board under the Eminent Domain Act of Kentucky.
The Lawtons had contested the original pending commissioner’s condemnation award of $60,000 for their property, which was approved by the council on April 14.
The loan balance from the city’s revolving loan fund will be repaid by the airport board upon receipt of reimbursement from the Federal Aviation Administration. According to Doug Isenberg, city council representative to the airport board, the FAA has already been notified of the funding request.
The $232,905 amount represents the value of the property determined by the jury, less $60,000 already paid to the plaintiffs by the court and $1,095 in recoverable court costs.
