MEETING: Glasgow Board of Education

DATE: Monday, Oct. 19, 2009

ACTIONS: Board members approved the following operation actions: minutes of the Sept. 14 meeting; payment of claims; personnel actions and fundraisers and trips. They also approved the following student services actions: creation and posting of an additional special education teaching position at Glasgow High School; purchase of the Destiny Resource Management Solution, a centralized library management system; quarterly mileage reimbursement rate of 41 cents per mile; declare miscellaneous property as surplus to be sold; purchase of two buses; purchase of two security cameras for current buses; and accept donation of $10,000 from Edmonton State Bank toward renovation of high school track.

REPORTS/PRESENTATIONS: Randy Wilkinson, director of pupil personnel, provided information on first-month enrollment with 1,950 students in the district and average daily attendance of 95.56 percent in September. Sharon Ritter, instructional supervisor, updated the board on district test scores with all schools except the high school making 100 percent of their target goals. The high school achieved 8 of 10 goals, but was negatively affected by a previous high dropout rate. Wilkinson and Tommy Elliott, director of support services, provided the board with a dropout committee report. Principals Kelly Bell, Mike Vaught, Kelly Oliver and Bill Philbeck, along with staff members, presented technology demonstrations from their schools. Wilkinson presented an update on the high school track renovation project. Superintendent Kathy Goff gave a quarterly progress update on district goals. Board members reviewed sited-based decision-making council minutes and South Green Elementary’s implementation and impact checks.

DISCUSSIONS: Board members offered comments and discussed the recent passage of a 4 percent plus recallable nickel tax increase for the district funding.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: There will be a local planning committee meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to review the current facility plan to be followed by a public forum at 6 p.m. Board members will meet with five architects on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the central office to hear building proposals for Glasgow High School. The next regular board meeting will be Nov. 9, at 7 p.m., at Glasgow Middle School.
