Electrical issue found in elevator

EDMONTON

The Glasgow Fire Department responded to an alarm at the Barren County Justice Center on Thursday night at 9:25 p.m.

According to a GFD report, the courthouse was filled with smoke when firefighters arrived. They searched the building and discovered there was a short in the elevator controls that had burned out the panel box.

Firefighters shut off power to the elevator and vented the building, which was vacant at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

GFD was on the scene for more than an hour. They were assisted by employees of the courthouse and Glasgow Electric Plant Board.

Judge-executive issues burn ban

Barren County Judge-Executive Davie Greer has issued an immediate no outside burn order for Barren County due to “excessive dryness and fire hazard conditions.”

The executive order declares any person who lights or maintains an open fire anywhere in Barren County will be subject to fines and penalties while the ban is in effect.

Continuing hot, dry weather and lack of rain have created tinderbox conditions in the county.

Area fire departments responded to two separate field fires Thursday afternoon. Hiseville, Cave City, Horse Cave and Hardyville firefighters responded at 12:41 p.m. to a blaze in a field off Peterson Road. South Barren and Haywood volunteer fire departments were called out to another field fire at Rocky Hill Store on Finney Road just before 4 p.m.

Vehicle listed as total loss after fire

Units of the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire just before noon Thursday at 410 Bunche Avenue.

Upon their arrival, a Ford Excursion, belonging to Joe D. Johnson of 633 Garretts Hideout, was fully engulfed. Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the vehicle was listed as a total loss.

According to a department report, the fire started in the dash area. No injuries were reported. GFD was on the scene approximately 25 minutes.
