IN MINUTES: Tompkinsville City Commission

ACTION: Commissioners took the following action: approved the minutes of their Aug. 28 meeting; agreed to buy back .415 acres at the Hall Commercial Park from Amy Hale for $15,050; approved on second reading an ordinance setting the 2008 real estate and personal property tax rates at .222 cents per $100 assessed value; approved on second reading an ordinance setting the 2009 motor vehicle and watercraft tax rates at .2000 cents per $100 assessed value; agreed to sell a 1970 model van owned by the Tompkinsville Volunteer Fire Department as surplus property; agreed to advertise for bids for gas and diesel fuel; agreed to advertise for bids for a contract for landfill use; agreed to advertise city maintenance supervisor’s position and to require an application, plus resume and two professional references; agreed to grant a right-of-way easement to a parcel of land located adjacent to city property on Mill Creek Road; agreed to use $100,000 certificate of deposit to pay city bills; and agreed to turn over $5,200 bill from Rhonda and Kay Dunagan for water damage from May 27 heavy rains to city’s insurance company.
DISCUSSION: Commissioners discussed preparation for the audit of the city’s 2007-08 financial records; work to repair sidewalks on South Main Street; and work by city’s maintenance department due to a build up of work orders.
CLOSED SESSION: Commissioners met in closed session to discuss possible land sale. They agreed to sell 3.4 acres at the Hall Commercial Park to Cleary Construction for $50,000.
