Rx for center: Continuing public support By AMBER DILLEY Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Community Medical Care Inc. is holding an appreciation event Thursday in conjunction with the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business After Hours gathering.
Dr. Bharat Mody, chairman for the center’s board of directors, said the event is an opportunity to show appreciation to everyone who makes Community Medical Care possible. “It’s for the people who support CMC and all the volunteers who take the time out to help at the CMC,” Mody said. Tina Combs, office coordinator, said CMC wanted to show its appreciation to the community. “We’ll be awarding volunteer of the year and we had a tie this year,” Combs said. CMC, a nonprofit agency, is an income- and need-based medical program. “We do two things,” Mody said. “One, we provide primary health care and prescription medication for (low-income) working residents of Barren County. Second, we provide for seniors who are low income and can’t afford prescription medication. We also provide them with glasses and hearing aids.” Combs said that since the center opened in 2002, it has helped 1,681 adults and 209 seniors from Barren County. Last year the center spent $90,000 in providing assistance. Each year the center raises about $30,000. “Then, of course, we have United Way and donations from the community,” Combs said. The center gives assistance by paying 90 percent of the medication cost, up to $250 per quarter for adults and $200 per month for seniors. They also assist in filing the paperwork for medication programs. The hearing aids are provided through the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s program “Hear Now.” “The medical community, the hospital, everybody’s behind this program and we appreciate it,” Mody said. Community Medical Care, located at 1304 N. Race St., Glasgow, is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The phone number is 659-0229.
