Jailer arraigned on 30 counts of sex abuse By GINA KINSLOW Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Barren County Jailer Leland Cox was arraigned in Barren District Court Wednesday on 30 counts of third-degree sexual abuse.
Cox plead not guilty to the charges. A pretrial date has been scheduled for Oct. 22 at 9:30 a.m. His attorney, Bobby Richardson, declined to make a comment regarding the case following the court proceeding Wednesday morning. Cox was originally set to be arraigned on July 30, but the date was changed due to a scheduling conflict with the prosecutor. The jailer is accused of touching the breasts of five female jail employees between Aug. 1, 2007 and July 24, 2008. He was arrested July 25 by the Kentucky State Police and lodged in the Warren County Jail following an investigation by the KSP’s Drug Enforcement Special Investigation West Branch. Cox was released on July 25 on a $2,500 bond. Shortly after being released from jail, Cox relinquished his jailer’s position pending the outcome of a criminal investigation. The charges he faces are Class B Misdemeanors. A special judge was appointed to hear the case after Barren District Court Judge John Alexander recused himself due to the court’s work with the jailer. Also recusing themselves from the case were Barren Circuit Court Judge Phil Patton and Barren Family Court Judge Mitchell Nance, as well as Barren County Attorney Jeff Sharp. Senior status Judge Roger P. Elliott has been appointed to hear the case. Todd County attorney Harold Johns will prosecute the case.
