MEETING: Metcalfe County Board of Education
DATE: Aug. 25, 2008
ACTION: School board members met in a special session for a student hearing. The parents of the student, who is 16 years old, requested that the hearing be open to the public. The student was charged with a threat of force or violence on school property. “While the student denied the action, the board of education found evidence to support the charge,” said Patricia Hurt, superintendent. “The board deliberated for 45 minutes and returned with a 4-0 vote to expel (the student) with homebound services for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year. The board does leave open an opportunity for the student to return to school for the second semester of school year. The board recommends the student to have anger management counseling and further recommends that a signed statement from a psychological professional be included in said petition. To be enrolled for the second semester, the student must be in good academic standing and be prepared to accept probation for the remainder of the school year. Expulsion does mean the student is not to be on school property or attend school functions during the 2008-09 school year until such time a petition is received and granted by this board.”
