DATE: Aug. 25, 2009 ACTION: Magistrates took the following action: Approved minutes of their Aug. 11 meeting; set 2009 tax rates for county, ambulance district, public library and soil conservation district; set 2010 motor vehicle and watercraft tax rates for county, ambulance district and public library; adopted a resolution to apply for a $80,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant for the purchase of two police cruisers and one sport utility vehicle for the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office, which will require a match of $38,000; adopted a resolution to apply for a $49,000 Kentucky Office of Homeland Security Prospective Projects Grant to fund the purchase of 10 air packs for the Summer Shade Volunteer Fire Department; agreed to donate $1,500 to the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center; to extend Story Lane by three-tenths of a mile; to meet in special-called session Friday to discuss Federal Emergency Management Agency repair projects; and voted 3-2 to contribute $3,473 toward a septic system for the Green River Animal Shelter, with Magistrates Arkley Phelps and Scotty Mosby casting dissenting votes and Judge-Executive Greg Wilson casting the tie-breaking vote. ITEMS TABLED: Magistrates agreed to table action regarding FEMA repair projects on Clifton Smith, Franklin, Beechville, Crenshaw-Cassady, H. White Cemetery, Rockland Mill and Sulphur Well Park roads due to discrepancy in bids, which were damaged by flood waters during a storm in 2008.
