MEETING: Metcalfe Fiscal Court
DATE: Aug. 12, 2008
ACTION: Magistrates agreed to set the 2008 Metcalfe County Fiscal Court real property tax rate at 7.8 cents per $100 assessed value; to set the 2008 Metcalfe County Fiscal Court tangible property tax rate at 10 cents per $100 assessed value; to set the 2008 Metcalfe County Ambulance District real property tax rate at 5.8 cents per $100 assessed value; to acknowledge the 2008 Metcalfe County Ambulance District tangible property tax rate at 6 cents per $100 assessed value; to acknowledge the 2008 Metcalfe County Extension Board real property tax rate at 5.7 cents per $100 assessed value; to set the 2008 Metcalfe County Extension Board tangible property tax rate at 10.1 cents per $100 assessed value; to set the 2009 motor vehicle and watercraft tax rate for the county at 8.2 cents per $100 assessed value; to set the 2009 motor vehicle and watercraft tax rate for the ambulance taxing district at 3 cents per $100 assessed value; to set the 2009 motor vehicle and watercraft tax rate for the Extension taxing district at 4 cents per $100 assessed value; approved the monthly financial report; approved budget and interfund transfers; approved claims; agreed to establish a line-item for the domestic violence intake assistant salary to come from the Local Government and Economic Assistance Fund; and to cut down three trees in the courthouse yard and to publish photos in the local newspaper to notify the public.
DISCUSSION: Magistrates discussed a federal Land and Water Conservation Grant. The county had applied for the grant in hopes of using the money to build public restrooms in the courthouse yard. The county was not awarded the grant, but Judge-Executive Greg Wilson said the fiscal court will apply for it again next year. Magistrates also discussed the sheriff’s new office, which is located across the street from the courthouse.
